The BU14 Deer Park WolfPack took on the #1 ranked team in New York in the State Cup Championship Final today, May 30 at 9:15am at Stringham Park in LaGrangeville NY. The WolfPack, who did not original enter the State Cup, only did so a week after registration had closed when ENYYSA email Coach Joe McGarty in search of one more BU14 team to complete the field. That decision culminated in a State Cup Champion from Deer Park for only the 2nd time in club history. It was a complete and total team effort and if one was to walk up not knowing who the favorite was, you'd have a heard time convincing them Deer Park was the underdog. The WolfPack were up 1-0 at halftime thanks to a left footed strike from outside the 18 by Joe Leon. Approximately 8 minutes into the second half Joe Leon's ridiculous speed, which was causing Farmingdales back line all kinds of problems paid off when a ball was played into the space behind the 2 center-backs. Joe fought off an attempted foul to break in one on one with the Keeper. The Farmingdale Keeper dove as Joe made a cut and he took Joe out inside the area resulting in a Penalty Kick being awarded for DP. Samuel Escobar received the call from Coach Joe. Sammy stepped to the spot an executed a perfect PK to his right (GK's left) with the GK diving to his own right. The game remained 2-0 DP until 1min 20sec remaining when Farmingdale pressed everyone forward. They managed to pull one back through a ton of bodies that cause DP's GK to see it late and had the shot sneak under his outstretched body. This is how the game would end. Deer Park WolfPack 2 - Farmingdale Fury 1. Coach Joe McGarty is extremely proud of how far the WolfPack has come. The Team will now be off to the Regional Championships 6/25-6/30 in Barboursville West Virginia!!!!
