The BU12 Predators showed resolve in the face of extreme adversity. Down 2-0 within the first 13 minutes of play they fought hard to get a goal back when Matt McLilly finished a loose ball bouncing around in the box. But right before halftime the opposition scored again sending the Predators into halftime down 3-1. If that wasn’t bad enough the opposition opened the second half scoring quickly in the 32nd minute of play and the Predators had a long uphill road to climb.
Chasing the game down 4-1 the Predators reorganized their personnel to start to try to chip away at the three goal lead. Halfway through the second half the Predators were called for a trip in the box on a reckless tackle, this would have surly ended their day but surprisingly the opposition missed the PK and the rally was on! Committing everyone up but a single back, in the 48th minute Ben Gerardi played a cross in from the right back which was promptly collected by Sammy Ahmed who volleyed it over the keeper. Sammy smartly got the ball and ran it back for the restart. In the 54th minute Sammy Ahmed drove in to the top of the box and saw Brian Duarte wide open on the left wing and smartly passed it off, Brian a natural lefty finished strongly after he took a controlling touch towards goal. Down 4-3 and confidence rising to get another the Predators kept pressing hard. Again Ben Gerardi played a long cross into the box which was handled by the defensive player and the Predators were awarded a PK of their own. Foster Abreu confidently placed the ball on the spot and with the game seemingly hanging in the balance buried the ball in the back of the net. The Predators thwarted another run and were countering as time expired.
The boys played uncharacteristic defense, but showed tremendous heart and fight to get back to level and earn the draw!
