The Deer Park Phoenix moved on third round of the Long Island Cup with a 2-1 victory of the Stony Brook Espanyol. The game was a see-saw battle early with the Espanyol coming out of the game inspired. Midway through the first half Scott Kelly got a breakaway with Martin Salgado trailing right behind him. The Stony Brook goalie made a move toward Scott who then laid off a pass to Martin who took a touch and then found the back of the net. The game continued to go back and forth through the remainder of the half. Early in the second half, Stony Brook got the ball down into the Phoenix box. After four or five failed attempts to clear the ball by the staunch Deer Park defense, Stony Brook was able to find the net. The game started to swing in Deer Park's favor as Stony Brook's lack of bench started to catch up with them. Midway through the second half Joe Curry carried the ball up the right side and looked to cross the ball. A Stony Brook player intercepted the cross but the ball pinballed through the box where on the back side Ryan Byrne punched the ball in for the go ahead score. Stony Brook tried to rally, but the Phoenix defense barely let them past the middle third of the field for the remainder of the game.
